Don't Cry For Me Argentina...

RIP $3.99 La Finca 2010 Malbec from Argentina
The above is what happens when your 5 y/o is trying to be helpful by bringing in the groceries for you and he jumps down from the back of the SUV with the grocery bag in hand and there is wine at the bottom. He wasn't hurt, but he started freaking out because wine was leaking all over the garage floor and he thought he might be in trouble. Lucky for him his mother was willing to make this a calm teaching moment for how to make a different choice when unloading groceries.

We've not tried this wine before and perhaps we've been saved from a terrible fate. It was all of $3.99, the cheaper end of our usual $3.99-$5.99 Trader Joe's wine purchases. I am a bit sad as the $3.99 Sangiovese we've been enjoying lately from Trader Joe's is AWOL and I was hopeful this could be my new lovely, inexpensive wine find. I'll pick up another bottle next time I'm there and we'll give it a try. The dog seemed to enjoy licking it off the garage floor, but she also digs through the litter box and eats cat shit so that isn't actually an indication of if the wine is any good.

Peace & Love :-)

  1. Well good for you for making it a teaching moment, and not a "Mommy really really needs a drink! Now what is she going to do?" moment! :)

  2. Thanks. My little guy was so upset I just couldn't yell at him. If he had been screwing around and chucking the bags out of the car for sport, I would have probably lost it.

Plus, there were other bottles of wine in a different bag so all was not lost!

  3. I make my wine purchases based entirely on the name of the wine. If it has a clever name, I'm all over it. If it's called "Chateau la Blah Blah Blah" and is a fafillion dollars a bottle, I'm pretty sure I won't like it. If it's called "Bored Housewife Blackberry Merlot" and costs $3.99, I'm going to love it. True story.

  4. I go for a combination of name, label, and bargain price. When I find one I like, I take a picture of it so I can remember it when I'm at the store. I have some types of wine I generally like, but I can't seriously discuss if a wine is fruity, earthy, full bodied or what have you. I either like it or not. I have a pretty wide range for what I'll deem "drinkable", but the bar is higher for a wine to make the "buy again" list and get it's picture taken.

The second bottle of the night is a different story...
